Virginia City is well worth a half of day.

Walk down Main Street, visit the old saloons like Bucket of Blood, Bonanza, etc.
take the train ride and visit the historic Catholic Church, etc.

I would also highly recommend going to Tahoe City and taking a ride down the river.
A few rapids along the way, but overall an easy ride for the less adventurous..
