I'm not going to enter the discussions involving unauthorized appropriation of chip images. In my case every chip in my collection has been scanned, rotated, and circle-cropped by me. I thought I'd offer my rationale for submitting all my chip images. Here are three reasons (not necessarily in order of importance to me.)
1) ALTRUISM
I remember when the first edition of the Campiglia/Wells price guide was published. In its time it was a truly monumental work. But the real delight was all the color chip images. I saw so many images of beautiful old Vegas chips. The guide images were a real incentive for me to keep collecting. My collecting interest is old Vegas but clearly the ChipGuide is a strong incentive to attract and retain collectors across all casino collectibles.
2) SECURITY AND PROVENANCE
A sizable portion of my rarer chips is posted on the ChipGuide and attributed to me. Were they stolen I could establish ownership and alert the hobby to check the ChipGuide and ask for help in locating any of my chips that might show up somewhere. My submission also establishes a date that the chip was acquired either on or before.
3) EGO
I'm proud that so many of my chips images are attributed to me. Just last week I was playing with my 10 year old grandniece and we were going through the Aladdin listing and she got a kick out of all the chips that are attributed to Uncle Alex. I also believe that in 50 years, if chip collecting is still a thing, that this will be my most remembered accomplishment.
