The Maceo's came from Sicily and went through Louisiana. Rose and Sam moved to Galveston very soon after and started as barbers, then did a little bootlegging before getting into the gambling business. There had some fortune that some of the big boys ran into legal trouble and left Galveston, leaving the Maceo boys to fill the vacuum.
