Re: All-hobby vs. Single-hobby shows
In Response To: My Favorite Jose Moment.. ()

I think there's room for both types of shows to be enjoyable and successful. There's the all-hobby show like the LV Gold Coast shows and the upcoming Reno show. (I'll be at the Reno show, and hopefully at the fall Gold Coast show.)

And I think there's a special place for the single-hobby show, like the CCA June convention and also the big World's Fair of Money show that ANA does (coming up in Okla. City in August).

In between are the FUN show in Florida, that's mostly numismatics, but looks like they had antique guns and some other (limited?) stuff too. I've never been to FUN or to the ANA World's Fair of Money shows, but that's my understanding of them.

Multi-hobby seems more common. The Long Beach, CA show is multi-hobby, though it's been quite a few years since I last attended it.

In other collectibles, there's ComiCon (comics) and various Sportscard / Sports memorabilia shows that are mostly single-hobby, but sometimes may stray into other areas a bit.

Personally, I particularly like the Casino / Antique Bottles connection, with overlapping historical interests. Just my own take.

Bottom line, my vote would be to keep the CCA June convention with a single-hobby focus, as it now is. NOT add other categories, as with the Gold Coast or Reno shows.

Just expressing my opinions, not trying to start an argument grin . I won't expand further on my reasoning unless someone wants to hear more.
