There's a software program called "PhotoScape" that works with various scanners to capture & edit images like chips, etc. In fact, it's the one that ChipGuide uses in its instructions on how to scan & edit chip pics.

See this ChipGuide link that explains how to scan chips for ChipGuide submission. You'll see PhotoScape mentioned, along with a website address. And it's free too.
