Time for a Day 3 FUN Update!

Getting toward the end of day three here at the FUN show in Orlando, Florida. I’m sporting a lovely purple Nugget (Sparks NV) polo and a coveted (and not for sale, sorry) Silver Strike hat from the Four Queens. Booth traffic today was fairly light, with a lot of kids walking past to get to a special kids giveaway at the booth behind me. It gave me an opportunity to drag their parents into conversations, so that was good. Without that, I think the foot traffic would’ve been 1/3 of what it was.

No new signups today, and the usual random interest from some to take their random drawer collection to the next level. A few people expressed exci about coming to a show this year. We may want to survey everyone coming to the convention to see how many people heard about the show through this FUN show.

I chatted with a gentleman from Panama who said there are quite a few collectors of casino items in his country. I asked if he would be interested in forming a club and he thought that was a good idea. While the CCA may not be able to officially have sub chapters (I don’t know), it would certainly be in our best interest to encourage any group of people to get together and build interest in our hobby, no matter where they are.

Thom Boynton might be a familiar face to you. He’s been on Pawn Stars and is a big coin collector. He stopped by with his lovely wife and we had a wonderful chat, both yesterday and today. he brought by the silver strike, metal token, and 2007 CCGTCC personal Chip from Joel Resnick.

One of my other visitors today was from my secondary home town of Durham, CA where my wife and I raised our boys before moving to Reno 10 years ago. We both attended Chico State and had some of the same professors. He graduated a year before I started so we never crossed paths back then. Anyway, LeRoy Alaways is pictured with me below.

After starting to walk out of the show at the end of the day, I could see that 1/3 or more of the dealers were packing up and not returning tomorrow. The kids coins feature of the event finished today, so those guys are not coming back, which means parents won’t be walking past our table to get to the kids booth. So, I turned around to head back to our table and am making a command decision to pack up our booth and not return for the fourth day. I hope that doesn’t upset anybody, but if it does, then you should’ve volunteered to come with me, ha ha.

On the way out, I made my only purchase, which was 2 bottles of limited edition Tesla mezcal. That’s what’s in the brown box.
