My apologies, everyone, for not updating you throughout the day yesterday. Yesterday was day 2 of the FUN show in Orlando, Florida. I am in Booth 679, representing the CCA with two display cases full of “stuff” (see my post from day 1 for pics) and badgering anyone that got within 20 feet of the table with the question “got any casino stuff?” I rocked an old CCGTCC shirt and a Peppermill Reno Poker room hat.
I found that asking people if they collect casino stuff resulted in a terse “no” and an accelerated pace away from the table. Asking if they HAD any got them to come over and talk. Most of the conversations centered around the random chips they forgot to cash in or a token or silver strike they had in a drawer at home.
Interestingly, silver strikes for the item most often talked about, whether it was because they had them, knew about them, or were enchanted by the ones I had in my display case. I’m certain that because I was at a coin show surrounded by all sizes and shapes of silver, gold, copper, and other precious metals, that had something to do with it. I am not here on behalf of the Silver Strikers Club (of which I’m a member), but I suspect I’ve done as much or more to raise awareness about THEIR club as I have for the CCA. You’re welcome, SSC.
Chips came in second place for the next most often talked about item, naturally. Surprising to me where the number of times people brought up Cuban and Puerto Rican chips. Now, I will grant you that I am in Florida, so it makes sense given the proximity of those two islands.
There is decent interest from many of the people I’ve chatted with about coming to Las Vegas for the June convention or one of the other spring/Fall shows, and/or Reno in May for my collectibles show. Although the chances are equally likely that they will just come to one of the cities for a vacation at some point, and not attend any of the shows. In that regard, I should request a commission or reimbursement from the Nevada department of tourism.
I didn’t get any new sign ups yesterday, but met one former member (forgot to get a pic) and one or two have enough items in there non-collections to take a look at the club and maybe join at a future date.
Tata for now! Back to day 3! Until my next update, please enjoy these pics from Day 2 and try not to be creeped out by my selfie. The other pictures include me being amazed at how thick the grass is at the convention center and my tofu and vegetables dinner with a can of strawberry margarita to make it even more international cuisine.
