According to my spreadsheet, in 2024, I:
- acquired 277 individual casino collectibles items
- 121 were chips
- 147 were Silver Strikes
- 7 were other forms of silver (ingots, bars, coins, etc)
- 2 were lots of Dansco albums
In the chips category:
- 4 checked casinos off my primary set type ($5 Nevada chips). The Navajo Saloon and Mizpah Bar chips were private sales. The Barboot Coffee House and Club Bingo chips were acquired through Chip Chat auctions.
- 25 were upgrades (higher book value chips than the ones I already had from those casinos)
- 1 was a placeholder ($0.25 Monte's Club in Winnemucca, NV - I still need the $5 if you have one for sale)
- 3 were duplicates of chips I just happened to fancy ($5 Mt Charleston Lodge, $0.25 Golden Slipper, and $5 Nevada Lodge).
- 4 were for "fun" or "value" (Whiskey A Go Go, Confucius Club)
- 49 were harvested or given to me personally (personal chips, cruise ship I was on, Durango/Fontainebleau/Rio chips for resale
In the Silver Strike category:
- I accidentally started collecting silver strikes by finding them at yard sales, on craigslist, etc.
- I started to really fancy them, so I became a member of the Silver Strikers club this past year.
- I placed in the June SS tournament and got a beautiful souvenir, further entrenching me in a new sickness
- I attended the Halloween release at the 4Q and acquired 2 full sets of everything, including the 6oz $300 strike. Sold one full set which assured me a tidy profit for the trip.
- I now have 346 silver strikes (plus other misc silver) in my collection and there's no help in sight. I'm attending the January release at the 4Q in a few weeks and probably every event going forward.
The moral of the story here is... if I had stuck to my guns, I would have only acquired 4 chips and that would have been the end of it. My bank account would be bigger and my travel bills smaller. Oh, well. Let's see how well I stick to my 2025 plan, eh?
* Sorry for not posting pics of everything. It's all put away and/or in safe deposit boxes. If anyone wants a picture of anything in particular, let me know.
