In Response To: Oldest 1.00 Nevada Table Chip? ()

To all,

Thanks for the comments. The Willow and Bank-Palace club both are strong candidates for first ever 1.00 chip in Nevada especially if they had illegal gaming prior to legalization. For the strip I think Phil is probably right. We were also thinking maybe the Nevada Club since they both were released in 1959 but Tropicana sounds probably right. Over the past few years I have always been interested in why there were so few 1.00 chips prior to the 1960s and the more digging it makes sense. With coin shortages starting in the mid 1950s and the price of silver going up it caused problems to keep enough coin on hand to keep the machines running. I also found it interesting the years that tokens came into and out of play based on US mint operations the removal of Silver Dollars from circulation and the introduction of the Esinhower dollar. Does anyone have an idea on when the first Casino token was produced for gaming purposes?
