It's just as likely that the 2016 election results were fraudulent (Russian interference etc) and they expected 2020 to go the same way but didn't expect the turnout so they lost and then made sure that they suppressed the Dem vote this time just to make doubly sure.
Makes more sense than any of the insane claims that they made about the 2020 elections that were laughed out of court.
The GOP can look on the bright side, it means that Trump is in power now (well, the people behind him are) instead of not being able to run again so make the most of it. History and time will tell as so much has come out about his first reign of terror so expect more of the same about this one.
