For many months now, I’ve been kicking the idea around about having a collectibles show in Reno sometime in the spring. I’ve discussed this with many of you, both online and in person, so this won’t come as a shock to anyone.
I didn’t want to step on the June convention, nor did I want to step on the SNCCC Fall show. I would have avoided any conflict with Casinorama, but that is no longer a worry now that they have decided to stop offering that show. However, with the SNCCC and Thundersnow adding two Spring shows to the Vegas location, I will do my best to dance around their events so is not to cause a conflict with either of them. I hope that all of the dealers planning to attend Vegas shows in the spring will continue north to participate in mine as well. My show will not not be just chips. Not just casino items. But EVERYTHING collectible. This means a much bigger group of buyers and sellers.
Why Reno?
- As much as I love Vegas, it gets old for some people
- The airport is five minutes away from my preferred venue, the Grand Sierra Resort, and there is a free shuttle
- Reno has tons of things to do, making it a great destination to extend your trip beyond the show
- Golf, snow ski, visit Lake Tahoe, experience, Virginia City and Carson City.
- The Nevada Historical Society is here, and along with it Howdy and Kregg Herz
- Reno will draw in collectibles dealers from Virginia City, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Truckee, grass, Valley, Auburn, Sacramento, and the Bay Area. Virtually all dealers at the Vegas shows come from outside the area.
- I feel that cross pollination amongst different collectibles categories will benefit those of us who focus on casino collectibles. My event will expose a lot of new people to our niche
- I live here
Will it be the same type of show you’re used to attending? No. If I’m able to make the right arrangements, the experience will go far beyond buying and selling at dealer tables. I want to make sure everyone who attends this event, put it on their calendar to attend every year because they had such a great time during and outside the event itself.
I’ve prepared a survey, which I was going to send out in the next week or so. I will publish it here in addition to emailing it out to my growing list of other contacts. I would appreciate any feedback you have on the idea, either now or when the survey comes out.
I would like to make it clear that I’m not doing this because of any dissatisfaction with other shows, nor any conflict with any person or individual. I would like to see more shows scattered around the country and even the world, this is my way of kickstart it. I hope you will join me and support me in this endeavor. I am also going to need a lot of help, so if any of you are feeling a sense of volunteerism, I will do my best to make it worth your while to assist.
Anyway, more to come. I just felt I better post something since everyone else seems to be as well.
Apologies for any typos. I did most of this with voice to text.
