New 'Of the Day' Collection Series: Letters from Casinos
Over 25 years ago, I embarked on a journey to collect casino playing cards by writing letters to casinos across the U.S., requesting free decks to add to my collection. At the time, I was aiming to set a record for the largest collection of casino playing cards. Many casinos were incredibly supportive, and it felt like a privilege to receive their contributions. While Guinness declined my attempt to create a record specifically for casino playing cards, since other playing card collections already existed, the joy of building the collection remained.
In this new "Of the Day" collection, I’m excited to share the correspondence I received from various casinos. Over the years I wrote to some casinos multiple times and it’s fascinating to see how changes in staff or policies impacted their willingness to send free cards. You may even recognize some familiar names! It’s also interesting to observe how generous some casinos were, while others made excuses or shifted their policies.
Each day I'll be sharing a letter from a different casino, working my way through the alphabet until the entire collection has been showcased. I welcome your comments, stories, or experiences with these casinos as we explore this unique collection together!
