I'm not much of a dice collector, though I do like unusual ones sometimes.
Here's an auction for a pair of Mirage dice with a green palm tree:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/326234531771
My questions are:
1. The pair look unpolished (saw marks?). Does this mean they never left the factory? Rejected? Prototype for approval? Something else?
2. There's a round circle mark on one of the die, on the one-spot. Is this a cancellation mark? Shouldn't the other die be cancelled too?
3. As the seller points out, there's no serial number. I assume this definitely means they were never used on a Mirage craps table, right? So, is this a factory reject or prototype? Or never even meant for the tables; instead, made for the souvenir / gift shop market? Something else?
Inquiring minds want to know.
By the way, the MOGH/ChipGuide only shows 3 examples of Mirage dice, all polished with name on the one-spot. Nothing like the pair shown in the auction.
I'm not a buyer at the asking price, regardless of background on them. I have no problem with the listing or seller. I just found them interesting, and wanted to get opinions from some knowledgeable dice collectors out there.
Thanks in advance!
