I was trying to buy the $500 & $1,000 oversized baccarats. Figure they have not been used for years. Was told by pit boss that they are in the vault.

Like you said, selling $1,500 worth of chips that was soon going to be worthless would make sense. But obviously the cashier did not share that sentiment.
