Here are 2 chips I purchased at the Gold Coast show.
Details: Large greek key mold; hot-stamped with gold foil. Obverse: drawing of a crossed pick (pickaxe) & shovel, with the word MINE in the center. Reverse: the red chip is stamped 50¢ and the black chip is stamped $1.oo.
Condition is NEW. Sharp edges and no signs of wear. Like right out of the box.
Location found: In a binder of chips, from the table where Carey Burke's estate was being sold. No notation in the binder; the selling representative had no clue either.
They were inexpensive to acquire; just curious as to origin.
There is a mine called "Pick and Shovel Mine", but unlikely IMO that these had anything to do with it. I don't think they are related to an actual casino either, given the non-traditional colors used for these denominations. Maybe home use or something else entirely?
Has anyone seen them before? Or guesses on origin?
Thanks!
