I see a recent post is still perpetuating the Lew Hymers/ Town
Riding Lesson myth. NOT SO! The Riding Lesson logo used on Town House
chips, match books, postcards and the sign outside was actually the work
of popular Reno artist Robert Cole Caples. The club magazine article even
included a cartoon map with the initials R.C.C. A close look at the logo shows
it is not Hymers work. The article then shows a bunch of Hymers work which
is a little weird. I’ve posted this some time ago so I hope this clears things up.
Interesting fact: the TH was one of Bill Harrah’s favorite bars in his drinking
days. My late friend Howard McMullen, owner of the Deer Head Lounge told me
Bill would come in, take a seat at the bar and wiggle his finger at the bartender.
The bartender would then set up the bar an announce “you’re now drinking with
Bill Harrah”. It was his way of promoting his fledgling casino.
