Jim, it would seem that this chip...

might belong to Archie Black, as the scan comes from his excellent on-line Atlantic City Chip Guide, and perhaps Archie can best answer your question.

However, in the absence of a different commentary by Archie, the chip looks to be a classic example of having been left on a car dashboard, or perhaps under (and in close priximity) to a bright light source, perhaps a flourescent light.

I say this because the Sun and other light sources will fade red pigments very quickly and will turn white paper yellow. Unless the scanner used has also changed the colors of this chip, it very much looks like one side was exposed to a bright light source for a period of time.

However, there can also be another explanation. While less likely, it is still possible. That explanation would be for the printing process to have not had any red ink and that the image was (inlay) was printed onto a creme or light beige colored paper. This would have required two errors.

But these are just my opinions. I would like to know what Archie has to say.
