I am sorry to say that after extensive research and paying a lot of cash for the chips and trips, there was never an Arawak Hotel and Casino in Cuba. Earlier documentation showed the intentions of a group by Lansky and Traficante of building a hotel & casino with such name, but Castro arrived before the architects did. However, about 6-8 months after the midnight of December 31, 1958, when Batista left Cuba, a new hotel & casino with the name of Arawak Hotel & Casino opened in the island of Jamaica.
The accepted attribution of the Arawak to Cuba has unclear origin, but had been accepted by most/all Cuban chippers for years, although no documentation of this was available. The existence of an Arawak in Jamaica was well known but assumed to be a different one since it was built after gambling ended in Cuba. But after significant research, the fact is that the Arawak chips we all have are from Jamaica and not from Cuba.
My apologies to all those whom I may have sold a "Cuban Arawak chip", but, those were sold to me too. And, Charles, you were right all along (but not sure how you got to that conclusion-LOL). Charles, or anybody available, could you put up the Arawak set, so people know what I am talking about. The board is not picking up any of my scans!!!
