Proctor Street was the location of many clubs- much of it has become a 'seedy' section of town. The 'downtown' areas of Port Arthur and Beaumont are mostly dead remnants of vacant buildings and days gone by. Port Arthur hosted a lot of boxing events back in the day. Today it is known for a lot of Black gang crime, drugs, oil refineries, Vietnamese fishermen/shrimpers, and ports for large vessels. Like most cities it has moved outward and created suburbs- some of which are very nice, and a beautiful shopping mall.
Beaumont had an illegal club (one of many) located between Beaumont and Port Arthur called the Forrest Club, I believe.
