Ditto what Pete K. said. Also if you opt for a Dslr, consider a 90 or a 100mm macro...give you more working distance for macro, esp. taking macros of incests or flowers. Also be advised almost all pocket cameras have inaccurate meters, so when your taking pics in bright sunshine all pics will be over-exposed....find your exposure compensation setting and on most if you dial in -2/3 compensation you'll get better results. then just fool around with different settings, for example in bright sunshine if you use the cloudy white balance your pics will have a nice warm tone. If you learn how to set a custom white balance (which is easy) you'll also get better results. On Canon cameras you have a vivid setting which makes colors pop. cany go wrong with any canons.
