This jockey chip has Tod Sloan (James Cagney played Tod Sloan in the musical Yankee Doodle Dandy) on one side and Fred Taral on the reverse. My best educated guess is that the chip was made around 1901. The inlay was made by Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, NJ. Also shown is a Taral pinback made by W&H at around the same time period. If anything, the pinback is older. The chip was either wholely made by W&H or delivered the inlay to USPC. Since no record of W&H inlayed chips were found in the USPC museum, I would tend to think that the chip was made by W&H. BTW, the Pluto chip is also a W&H inlay.
Looking for great chips in trade. Very expensive.
