First I was using frames but that was cost prohibitive and did not yield well to adding to the collection. It worked for small subsets (such as Hard Rock chips) where i could add to the end of the frame as new chips were released.
I then went to boxes, but I didn't like the results. It was basically a bunch of boxes in the closet.
I moved to books with plastic pages. I didn't like them for an number of reasons --
1) the pages would not allow me to "add" to the group unless I had enough break pages. I want to add the new issue Mandalay Bay $1 after the first issue chip I had to pull out the remaining chips on the page, and move them. My OCD would not allow me to have a messed up page. They need to be in order or I would never find them.
2) the pages themselves had issues as the pocket would rip, the chip would bleed, the pocket would stretch and the chip would fall out of the binder
I think the pages work fine for traders - the order of the chips in the page is less relevant, and you can have different books by denom, location, etc.
I finally moved to cardboard flips and boxes to store them. They get scanned and cataloged and put into a flip with the casino name, location, ID number (TCR) and then filed in alphabetical order. If I add more chips then I slip them in between. Every once in a while i have a large move between boxes when I add a lot of chips at once and then add a box to the end, but not bad.
I do have some subsets in other storage methods. I have a collection of decent quality LV $5's in Dansco binder. That may change but for now that is a nice option. I want to move some of them to airtites but I haven't found a good airtite storage solution (other than more boxes that hold airtites).
