(NCR) Just Back from the South Point grin grin

Hi all,

Just got back from the South Point and all I can say is, you're gonna LOVE the convention!!!!
I didn't take a single picture - we were having tooooo much fun!
Staff is still as happy, friendly and helpful as last summer. Spoke with several employees, and they all reinforced that Mr. Gaughan is a stickler for hospitality and cleanliness - and it shows!
We had an older room, and although the carpet was a little wrinkly in the hallway, the room was spotless and the bed was super comfy. AC worked great.
Second morning I walked past the maintenance fella on our floor and he was changing all the air filters in the rooms and checking light bulbs (a whole tray of energy efficient bulbs - atta boy Mr G!). I had to laugh as I remember a stay at the Riv where our room only had one light bulb that worked. Nice how things have changed.
Coupon book given at check-in now has a coupon for a free lunch buffet (no more buy one get one free....it's just a free buffet). And the lunch buffet was excellent...fried shrimp, peel-n-eat shrimp, fried catfish, baked trout, pasta, pizza, BBQ, Mexican food, roast beef, ham, piled high salad & soup bar (even cold Deli sandwiches) and my favorite: lots of fresh Chinese food (yummo). I had the biggest glass of ice cold milk and couldn't have asked for a better lunch ($6.99 if you don't have a coupon...such a deal!)
For the slot players, Mr Gaughan has invested in ALL the newest machines. If anyone is a "Goldfish" player, they have THREE different kinds of Goldfish slot machines.....I didn't even know they made that many.
I found several banks of nickle video poker machines and had a great time playing late night on $40 (second night walked with $160 and my entire bankroll). Cocktail waitress kept me in fresh coffee and water every 20 minutes all night. A $2 or $3 tip here brings them back often.
Played Video Poker at the center "I" bar when we first got there, and within 30 minutes, hit 4 Deuces for $250. Never made it back there, as there were just soooo many new games to try everywhere else the casino.
I spent one morning out at the pool, and there is free WIFI in the pool area. May not sound like fun to you, but there is a nice big shaded table area by the snack bar/lounge that is perfect for daily "surfing" (nice music and plenty of privacy). There were a few small children at the pool, but the lifeguards kept a close eye on them and weren't afraid to use the whistle if needed to keep them under control. It was so enjoyable that I fell asleep and sunburnt my ankles (didn't put on enough sunscreen...even wearing socks that evening hurt). I felt adventurous and refreshed when I woke up and went to the snack bar/lounge and ordered a BIG bottle of water and a large slushy Pina Collada. I almost laughed when the total came to $8.25 (I remember what the RIV charged for drinks). The bartender would not take any money (besides a tip) as he asked if I was a casino player and then gently told me to ask my host to comp the bill. So I left him a fat tip and signed the room charge.
Later I went to the slot club, and not only did the host "Courney" comp my pool bar tab, but offered us dinner at whatever restaurant we wanted. She seemed alittle shocked that I only asked for the coffee shop.
Coffee shop was GREAT for dinner and we enjoyed Chinese food, buffalo wings and fresh pie....weird I know, but it really hit the spot. Service was once again, excellent! Our waitress, Ester was so good that (since dinner was comped) we left her a $20 bill...thought she was gonna cry. We will be asking for her during the convention - she really is that good at her job!
I wish I could give you the low down on grave yard cafe specials (Cheeseburger w/fries $2.95...eggs, ham, steak and eggs, pancake sandwich, etc $2.95 - $4.95), but we couldn't force another bite down. Although from the line of folks waiting for a table at midnight on a weekday, it must still be good!
I honestly think this was the first time that Darrell and I were BOTH sad to leave, we really would have liked to stay another night.
We made the decision that even though I am fully comped at Caesars (or any HET hotel), we are making the South Point our new home - it's that good!!
Oh well, we headed home and as soon as I emptied the suitcase, I put it in the guest room and am just refilling it for June!! We can not wait!!
I know it's a year later, but once again - THANKS BOD!!! grin grin
Hugs,
