More USPS Gripes... This is a real doozie!

This is a long rant... I wanna choke somebody but can't so I'll rant instead.

This beats all I've ever seen. Talk about inefficient, bureaucratic, justify my job BS. I mailed a chip that I sold on eBay and bought postage and printed the label thru PayPal with delivery confirmation. Simple, 1 chip, put it in the mailer, slap on the postage, stick it in the mailbox, kick back and have a drink. I probably done this hundreds of times. It cost a little more but it's easy and convenient for me. As a matter of fact almost everything I mail (chip wise) is done this way.

I mailed the chip out April 12th. I mailed the chip from Mississippi to Washington state. On the 15th I checked the USPS site to make sure the package arrived. The status was... Out for Delivery. I though... cool, it made it. A couple days later I check again and the status was still... Out for delivery.

Today my mailman delivered a large envelope from the Postmaster of the city in Washington that the package was mailed to. It contained the #000 bubble mailed that I originally mailed... hummm...

Here's what takes the cake... my original package was returned to me in a 12x16 envelope containing:

  • My original mail piece (2 oz)
  • Two 12-1/2x9-1/2 Flat Rate mailing envelopes
  • Two blank delivery confirmation slips
  • An 8-1/2x11 letter from the Postmaster explaining that my package couldn't be delivered because it failed to meet postal regulations. It had to be at lease 3/4" thick to qualify.
  • Two 8-1/2x11 photocopies of the USPS regulation

All this weighing in at 5.4 oz and mailed 1st class from Washington state back to Mississippi.

So now I take my original #000 package, put in a #0 bubble mailer with a little extra padding to ensure that it's 3/4" thick and mail it. Guess I'll be mailing everything the old fashioned way from now on :-). I just hate going to the freaking post office!

End of rant... I feel better, sorta.
