Been busy out here in the "boonies".
The mud has finally dried up and now the weeds are out in full force. I took one look at what my local Walmart charges for RoundUp and about had a cardiac (I need ALOT).
I did a little checking on the internet and found a recipe for homemade weed killer that is safe for your kids and pets (unlike commercial weed killers)...plus it is incredibly cheap to make...
I really didn't think this would work, but for 1 gallon of vinegar (Walmart, *several aisles from the bananas* $1.79)
I figured I'd give it a try...all I can say is "WOW" !
Here are the little sticky-pricky buggers before I sprayed them (sorry, pics are a little fuzzy):
Here are the weeds 2 hours after spraying...they're curling up already:
And here are the weeds I sprayed two days ago (see the dead brown things in the middle?)
Holy Cow!!
Here is the recipe:
One Gallon white Vinegar
1 Cup Table Salt
1 or 1 Tablespoons dishwashing soap (Dawn or any cheap brand)
Mix 4 or 5 cups vinegar in cooking pot with salt. Bring to a gentle boil and stir to dissolve salt. Cool slightly and pour back into rest of vinegar jug. Add dish soap and gently shake.
Yes, you can use your regular cooking pots to do this - there is NO poison!
Pour into a sprayer and go get those weeds!
Side Notes:
The sunnier the day, the better this works....probably no rain for a day or two after you spray.
Don't lean over the stove while stirring this - it's not poisonous, but it will make your sinuses and eyes run (the vinegar smell).
Do not spray where you intend to plant again soon, the salt sterilizes the soil and nothing should grow back for awhile - great for driveway and gravel areas.
Why did I post this? Because it is safe for your children and pets.. it's cheap...easy to make...and safe for the environment and water table.
So flame away at me, but I can't keep this secret to myself!!
See you in Vegas !!
