If you’re looking at chip collecting as a “buy and hold investment” you might want to look at another hobby. You can make money in this hobby but the majority of the people who collect chips do it for the love of the hobby.

You might want to start going to the local casinos and pick up chips. “New condition” $1.00 chips will be your best bet. Come back to this board and sell and/or trade them for other chips. What you have left over can always go back to the casino and you haven’t lost much on your “investment”

Second, buy a guide…..why? if you don’t know the value of the chip you might trade a valuable chip for a common chip. Some casinos dump their chips (for example Washington State Region) so you might have a great looking chip that isn’t worth face value.

Third, go looking for chips at garage sales and antique malls. Sometimes you might find that “rare” chip at a sale for almost nothing.
