They were used originally for the game of Faro but they were also used for Roulette. The colors were used like in Roulette one color per player. They were also used for poker. Gene is correct, they were made from the early 1900s intil the mid 1950s. There are about 280 designs and most are very common but there are others designs that are very scarce.
