Thought I'd put in my two cents about Bill Borland, having dealt with him for years in the early '80's. He had an office with an impressive collection of photos of him with numerous celebrities, and a lot of great stories to go with them. At the time he knew more about chips than any other person I knew and there were chips laying around all over when you went to visit him. I still have some of his old sales sheets and every copy of his newsletter. I have no idea why he did what he did but I'm glad I knew him. All of his phony chips were loosely based on actual chips and looking at his sales sheets now, you can pick them out because they are all obviously underpriced compared to the other obsoletes. The closest he came to an original, I beleive, was the $1 Flamingo Capri. Other than the HS rotation and the shade of the HS it is virtually identical. The 25c The Casino was done on a slightly different shade blue chip from the original. The same goes for the Jims Casino The Wheel,and others. He even noticed that the Silver Slipper had a Dicecards mold 50c and so then promptly made a $1 and $5 with a matching HS. He was the first to have the Shenandoah chips (genuine, I beleive, except for the 25c and 50c) and I remember seeing boxes of them for sale at 45c each regardless of denom. He was also the first to come up with the Deville chips. A center inlay, yes, but I'm still very suspicious of these. No matter what we think of Bill Borland, he insured that we will continue talking about him for decades in the future.
