I think a better term is "Less-expensive prices" (add those ingredients into the mix and show us the outcome).
My Walmart plugs have always stressed "quality/frehness" along w/ them buying local wherever possible, coupled with less-expensive costs = a buyer's desire. It's an art; skill... and that is why they are numero uno; no other reason.
Every example I ever gave resulted in showing the same growers, packers, bakers were supplying the local supermarkets with the same exact harvest/products along with fully-explaining how Walmart knew the storage/handling art where though the local supermarks also knew, but refusd to apply thinking they'd save a buck. Those local supermarkets deserve what they get by trying to rip their long-time customers.
(Of course I'm only talking foodstuffs; know nothing about other items...)
The shopper doesn't leave town when XYZ Supermarket goes belly up; they go to newly-built Walmart stores who are now buying MORE from those same packers, growers and bakers; Always.
There...! Pure fact w/o Polly-Ticks to use as a crutch...
