$1,500.00 today in Laguna Beach. I said no haven't been in that town over a year. They tried for a additional $1,000.00 charge, but Visa fraud unit denied that attempt, and called me. I have only used the card in the last month at Lowes, and Target retail stores. Never has the card been out of my site, and I still have the card. I have a large credit line, so glad they stopped the fraud early. They are sending a new card. They told me the charges were at Home Depot, ATT store, and Ace hardware. I asked how can they use my card without my plastic card? I was told any clerk can get your card number, name and exp. date off the retail store copy, then made a plastic card with your info. After I questioned about the numbers in the mag strip, they also said hackers have broken into thousands of these numbers, and most are in Russia, they sell to the crooks who then make the cards w/ mag. strip numbers. I know credit card fraud is growing big time and Visa off sets with higher interest rates. Beware, and use your cards wisely. and carefully. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to protect ID theft? This event has me shaken.
