The invitation shown below from the UNLV website is labeled as being from the Flamingo public relations and promotions file, so I would assume it is legit, and bears out exactly what Bill Judge said yesterday.

It's interesting how the story that the original name was the Pink Flamingo has spread throughout the internet and illustrates quite well that you can't always believe what you read online.
