Following are the lots for auction throughout the month of October, culminating in the live chat/auction session of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 28-30, 1998 on Prodigy. Because we have had such terrific response to this auction, we have far too many lots to auction on one evening. Instead, we'll hold our live auction on three successive nights!

If you cannot attend the live auction, all you have to do is send me an e-mail with your bid (even dollar amounts only, please). E-mail bidders DO win lots! Throughout the month of October, I will be posting notes here to update everyone on the status of bids received. Like a live bid board, you'll be able to see the amount of the highest bid, and adjust yours accordingly.

The consignor's names do not appear as part of the lot listing, nor will high bidders' names appear when I post updated e-mail bids. I will post a complete list of prices realized after the auction, and will include the consignor's and successful bidders' names and e-mail addresses for each lot at that time. IT IS THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT THE CONSIGNOR BY E-MAIL AFTER THE AUCTION, to make arrangements for payment and shipping. LOT 7: It was the first year-round casino open at Lake Tahoe. It opened in 1949, and was open until 1955 when it was purchased by Bill Harrah. Harrah moved his operation across the street, and it is now the site of Harvey's. You're right: George's Gateway Club, one of the classic South Tahoe clubs. Here's the $5 sqsqrect chip with the stylized lettering. A classic chip in fantastic condition. TCR #N7621. (See Lot 24 for the $25 and Lot 80 for the $100!)

LOT 11: $1 Gold Rush, Cripple Creek. Most of these one dollar Chipcos were drilled. This one isn't, has a Banick book value of $150-$200.

LOT 12: $.25 Yellow Treasure Bay, Tunica, MS, H&C, Near Mint - Once one of the rarest riverboat chips and could not be found anywhere. Listed in the Piccolo/Susong Riverboat Price Guide as "P" value - $150-175.

LOT 14: Four Queens, LV: Mt Rushmore set of 4 chips from 1996. T. Roosevelt, A. Lincoln, T. Jefferson and G. Washington with Mt Rushmore on reverse of each chip. TCR #'s N7675, N7918, N7672 and N7674 and each chip
rated as "E". The Four Queens destroyed all the extra chips that were held in the cage. All in unused condition.

LOT 29: $1 Ore House, Cripple Creek. This casino opened in Cripple Creek as the Ore House in 1991, changed their name overnight to Lucky Lola's in 1992. I was told at the time a lawsuit concerning the name, also being used by another business in Divide Colorado was the reason for the name change. This mint Chipco has a Banick book value of $80-120.

There are four $5 chips from Caesar's, Claridge, Tropicana and Trump Plaza, and three $10 chips from the Hilton, Harrah's and Sands. All feature the picture of Kate Shindle.

LOT 40: Harry O's Club, Dixon, CA - A set of seven (7) chips in diasqr mold from this closed California establishment. 10c, 25c, 50c, $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, and $50.00 chips.

LOT 41: One of the few chips we know for sure was used both at an illegal club and at a licensed Nevada casino: CC, Crest and Seal, Nevada Lodge, Crystal Bay Lake Tahoe (and Chesterfield Club, Detroit), TCR N6245, Used.

LOT 42: One of the most famous illegal casinos in the country, Northern Kentucky's Beverly Hills Club, was a large, plush, carpeted casino when Las Vegas was still a dusty cowboy town. It operated through the 1920's through the early 1950's and was host to the top entertainers of the period. Here are four chips from the Beverly Hills Club: blue and off-white hourglass rims and blue and off-white flower rims, all hotstamped BH.

LOT 47: $1 Aspen Mine, Cripple Creek. The Aspen opened in 1993, closed in 1996. 200 $1 chips are known to have been made. About half that number are known to be in the possession of collectors. This Chipco beauty books at $400-600 (Allen Banick's Colorado guide), and sold at the Gaming Archaelogy auction last May for over $500.

LOT 71: One of the most beautiful styles of chips ever made was the diecut metal inlay chips produced by the Burt Company until the late 1940's. The artistry and craftsmanship eventually took their toll, the chip being too expensive to continue making. Here is one of the greatest examples: the Tahoe Village roulette, plain rim, brown chip with diecut skier.

LOT 83: Arizona Charlie's - set of 6 chips ($5 denomination) commemorating 8th anniversary of the casino in 1996. Very nice picture chips showing Arizona Charlie/Charlie Meadows at different ages. All in unused condition.

LOT 84: Sparks Nugget $.25 (TCR N8887). This classic Northern Nevada chip is Orange...Small Key...and has no inserts. The hotstamp says "The Nugget" and there is an outline of a nugget pictured. There is evidence that this chip may also have been used at the Tahoe Nugget in Lake Tahoe during the 1960's.

LOT 85: Three of the prettiest Chipcos ever made, all $1 chips from Colorado! A $1 Lilly Belle's, voted Chip Of The Year; a $1 Jazz Alley, the casino is still open but they only use $5 chips on the tables; a $1 Cracker Factory, the parrot is waiting to be in your collection from this casino that closed in '93. LOT 88: Here's one for eagle-eye collectors and error mavens: a set of chips never offered before together. The errored Slots of Fun. One is correct with the E on both sides (VEGAS), the next has one side wrong with the F instead of E (VFGAS) and the third has both sides errored with an F. These three chips would
cost over $150! $5 Bud Jones Metal inlay, red with 6 blue and getting harder to find, much less all three together.

LOT 89: Stateline Saloon (Amargosa Valley) - Lot of 3: $5 - Desert Splendor - Limited Edition (450 issued); $5 - Pioneer Territory Wagon Tours - Limited Edition (450 issued); $1 - N9160 - This is the current $1 chip in use at the Stateline Saloon. Why put it in the auction? It's one of about 25 we are aware of that was individually signed by Doris Jackson, the club's owner whose picture is on the chip!

LOT 90: The Richard Petty $5 set: Five $5 chips issued by Sam Boyd properties in conjunction with the inaugural running of the Las Vegas 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race. Five different casinos, and very different means to obtain these chips. They were all introduced into live table games during race weekend. The Stardust would let you buy one at the cage. The Fremont wouldn't let you buy any at the cage, you HAD to win them from the tables. Sam's Town would sell from the cage, but their chip has the exact same edge inserts as their house $5 chip so the cage people couldn't tell where the "special chips" were. The California Hotel and Main Street Station were both happily selling their chips from the cage the Monday morning after the race! TCR5 value D on all 5 chips.

LOT 98: The first issue of the Showboat in Las Vegas. In fact, so early that the name of the hotel/casino is spelled in two words: Show Boat. Scarce rectangle rim chip, purple, roulette 2. TCR N7024.

LOT 99: Sands (Las Vegas) - Tournament Set of 3: This set was used on several occasions beginning in the mid-80's. There were 200 sets originally ordered. All 3 chips feature the distinctive Sands house mold. The $5 (N9048) is Red, the $25 chip (N9052) is Green and the $100 (N9054) is Black. The hotstamp says Tournament Chip...No Cash Value." This set is a must for true Vegas collectors.
