I have said to new collectors that buying a ‘lot’ of miscellaneous low value notes on eBay was a good way to start a modest collection, provided you don’t spent too much then suggested 50¢ per note or so just to be safe.

I ran across the worst deal I have ever seen on eBay I believe. I have seen crooks, scammers, BS artist and cheats. BUT this guy I truly believe is honest and simply has no idea what his collection is worth. He has 110 notes, most all are very common inexpensive notes that are torn, dirty, folded, wadded, missing pieces, taped together and just the most rag-tag mess you ever saw. He is proud of it… selling it for $500.00. I did not see a single note valued at $5 in the bunch.
