I don't think Rene lied. I just don't think he had all the information. Like Mel said, he thought he had worked out a deal for all of them too. I don't think that Rene should shoulder the blame.

But the proof is going to be on how Nevada Mint resolves the issue with an unsatisfied chipper, i.e. Mr. Kruse.
