Harold Smith Sr.
In Response To: Harolds Club Info ()

I worked at Harrah's Reno in the early 1980's. I transferred to the Security Department I was the youngest person they ever hired for Security at the time - Just 21 years old. One of the first things I was told when on the floor "See that man sitting at the Hideaway Bar, that's Harold Smith - Don't talk to him, he does not like to be bothered". A few months later while making my rounds Mr. Smith fell down right in front of me. I helped him up, he was ok and we started talking.

He used to come in two or three times a week, and after that incident when he would see me he would strike up a conversation with me. Every now and then on a night off I would run into Harold and have a few drinks with him and talk about the old days - I loved the history of gaming and he had a lot of stories. He also loved to talk about boxing. Very nice man. He died a year or so after I moved out of Reno.
