You can check all bids at auctions close by opening "bid history."

I disagree about placing early bids with your highest amount. This usually stimulates items to go over your high bid as buyers have plenty of time to decide to out bid you. If you can have your finger on the trigger, the last 2 minutes of an auction is the perfect time to place your highest bid.
