What I miss most I suppose was looking forward to the new cars each and every year where with some exception like the Ford Thunderbird ( 55' 56' 57' etc.) we were treated to a complete restyling.
I still remeber the NU-CAR carriers delivering the new vehicles shrouded in canvas so not to spoil the intro dates.
While the new cars of this era are probably better in almost every way mechanically, short of the fact that they are difficult if not impossible to work on, they lack the soul and spirit of the cars from days past.
Little square boxes with rounded corners all pretty much the same in style whose features rarely change
Sure the new Toyota Camry runs better than my 57' Olds. It will last longer, will require fewer repairs, uses less gas and is equipped with airbags all over the place.
On the other hand, what would you prefer to be in were you to have a accident a 57' Olds at 4272 pounds of concrete and steel or a modern day disposable cardboard crackerjack box ?
