The reason why is that the potential for slabbed chips is ever present. A grading company, big coin company, individual chip dealer or even just an everyday ole chip collector can get the hair brained idea to grade, slab and sell slabbed chips at any time. Selling of slabbed coins, Especially high end coins is common place. The coin collecting world sees only benefit to the practice and no downside what so ever.

We, the chippers on the other hand, see only the down side of it.

Since Mark Scott has been brought up by many already, let's use him as an example. Putting aside all of the heated arguments and personality conflicts, the guy is a big time coin dealer and attempted to get into the market of chips as well. From his world (coins), this would be a very good thing. He then ran into the Slab-Free group and the sparks began to fly.

From my information, Mark Scott didn't ever actually sell any slabbed chips on ebay....it never got that far. I thin he was in the beginning stages and was just getting things going . But that's not really important. The important thing is that he hasn't been involved in any slabbing activities for six years. Like I stated in my original post, we try to modify behavior, and we were successful in our modivating a change in behavior.

From his point of view, we have spent six years with him on the boycott list, even though he stopped pursuing the slabbed chip direction. Only logical that he would see things that he stopped his action and direction of slabbing, yet we have kept him on the boycott list all of this time. Has has stated that someone even threw a rock with a slabbed chip attached to it through his store front window back then. If that were me.... I wouldn't be too happy with the Slab free group either.

Again, my point is that we should try to be just as diligent in removing names from the list as we are in adding them. Those actively involved in the Slab Free group have the best interest of the hobby as their driving force. I know they also want to make sure everything is fair.

I believe there is still a need for, and always should be the Slab Free movement. I just think we need to do a little tweaking and fine tuning. I think we also need to investigate the people on the boycott listing and see if they should still be there.
