Re: Yes, slabbing again
In Response To: Re: Yes, slabbing again ()

Robert,

From my point of view, it does seem like there is a personal agenda. The reason for this is as follows: I asked what it would take to have someone removed from the banned list. The answer came back within an hour that that slab free board member would never vote to remove the dealer in question from the slabfree list.

Based on this response, I will ask you a similar question. How can a person who was previously placed on the list of dealer's in slabbed chips get their name removed from the list? If the answer is a policy that can be evenly applied to all cases, then I could be convinced that there is no personal agenda. However, if the decision is arbitrary and simply subject to the whims of the slab free board members, I can then conclude that this is a personal agenda.

I will state that I do not believe to the best of my knowledge that I have ever talked to or done business with Mr. Scott, and I am asking this question on my own free will and volition,

I will also state that I don't see how slabbing helps the hobby, and I think that in general it is a bad idea. I simply want to understand how someone gets their name off of the list.

I copied the pledge from the slab free website and posted it below. When I read the pledge, it is written using the word "participates". This word can only apply the the actions of someone today. I would assume that if the writers of the pledge wanted to cover past transgressions that they would have used a phrase such as "participates or participated in selling slabbed chips". This implies to me that dealing with someone who participated in the past would not be in violation of the pledge.

I will NOT buy any slabbed chip.
I will NOT have any slabbed chip in my collection.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who sells slabbed chips.
I will NOT buy ANY chip from any dealer who grades chips for a slabbing service.
I will NOT do business of any kind with any dealer who participates in any way in the slabbing of chips.

Finally, If you want to know why I am not on the list, I will explain here. If I were to find a rare R-10 Vegas chip, valued at over $10,000 for sale at $10 and it was slabbed, I would buy it in a heart beat and take it out of the slab. I would assume that those on who signed the pledge would be so kind as to not purchase this chip, as it would be a violation of their personal pledge.

Thanks,

John
