The Republic of Singapore is a British Commonwealth nation at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singapore one of of the major ports of the world. In 1826 Singapore, Penang and Malacca were combined to form the Straits Settlements, which was made a Crown Colony in 1946 when the Straits Settlements was dissolved. It joined in the formation of Malaysia in 1963, but broke away in 1965, to become an independent republic. Singapore is a very influential member of the Asian economic community. ENJOY!!
