Re: Dick, what was the circumstance...

Short version: 12-7-41 my father received a call to report to Washington D.C. An hour later we only saw his back walking down the street of Little Rock, AR. Mother& moved to Milwaukee, WI two days later. (Mothers sister lived there. A few months later my father informed us he was heading for England and would see us later.
Mother being a business woman opened a dress shop on Greenbay Ave in Milwaukee with a cutting room in the basement. She had near a 100 people sewing for her in their homes and jobing through the Merchadise Mart in Chicago. At that time one of my jobs was to make the bank deposits and got to know the people in the local bank. They knew I was interested in paper money and one day while making a deposit the teller asked me if I had ever seen a $100,000 bill. I didn't have any in my pocket at the time .
Large bills at that time were used in transfering funds between banks and I don't remember any in actual circulation althought they may have. He handed me the note which I was allowed to look at, turn over and get the feeling I was king of the mountain. At that time a monthly transit paass for streetcar and bus cost $1.
On getting home told my mother who joked 'maybe some day you will have one yourself' NOT! Did have a few gold certificates a one time but long gone.
Yes, I do remember that day.
Wishing all enough,
