New York? That's a whole 'nother country...
In New York, I believe the term for Coke or other soft drinks is soda.
This is not to be confused with one of their egg creams or plain sodas. That's a concoction containing syrup, milk and soda/seltzer water - an ice cream soda without ice cream. No eggs, no cream - like I said, a whole 'nother country.
I lived in Brooklyn for a year and I remember trying to buy a frappe. They had velvets, malteds and frosteds but no frappes. I settled on a milkshake at the time, but really loved those chocolate egg creams.
