While I like many others can also get a free room elsewhere, I have never stayed anywhere other than the host casino for a convention.
Many reasons for this with the #1 being that the more rooms we book thru the club room block, the more we benefit the club. The second most important reason is, everything happens at the Southpoint. The Banquet, The Trade Sessions, The BJ and Poker Tourneys, the Auction, The Splashbar. Chippers everywhere you look and at every table you sit down at. Always a chipper conversation going on at the splashbar and a never ending supply of people to get together with for lunch or dinner.
Not to mention it makes it a lot easier to bring chips, books and supplies back and forth from your room right upstairs rather than across town.
As far as can you help, you most certianly can.
Our convention exists because of volunteers and we rely on nearly 100 of them to make it run.
Closer to convention time you will see posts from Bob Bickford our volunteer coordinator. He will be putting out a call for volunteer 2 hour shifts for everything from manning a table at the MOGH or Auction, to help with set up and teardown.
