Ash Meadows Lodge....
When we saw the Ash Meadows Lodge chip in the 2009 Convention auction catalog we immediately became interested in tracking this facility down. Looking in TCR it's noted as being in Nye County, and this is a very, very large county with lots of open spaces. So the next step was to look at the Nevada map and maybe glimmer a hint of where the lodge may be, and there it was the "Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge" out in Amargosa Valley a few miles from Death Valley Junction where a lot of their gaming supplies were sent as per the O'Neil records (thank you David Spragg). We stopped at the Death Valley Junction motel, where yes, they knew where it was and they pointed us in the general direction. So away we went and after going several miles we turned left onto dirt roads and finally to a locked gate at a mining facility, we waited for awhile and the mining people returned from lunch, we explained what we would like to see and they invited us onto the property and took is to the lodge and the rest is history.
We will be returning, taking more pictures and talking with the daughter of a Ash Meadows Lodge employee for more history on the lodge.
Registration, dinning and relaxation building - may be where the gambling was, too.
Back view looking over the filled in pool and the lettering on the roof.
Guest Rooms, 5 per side, currently occupied by rattlesnakes and a Bobcat.
Jail House, because Pahrump was a long drive at night all on dirt roads without street lights,
the sheriff thought it best to let the rowdies spent the night in the Lodge's jail.
And, of course, the brothel where lonesome men, from Amargosa Valley, Death Valley Junction
and maybe Pahrump (they had they own brothels), would visit.
If you ask the locals about "Ash Meadows Lodge, the first words are "oh, the one with the brothel".
BTW - the best we can for a addreess is 7006 East Spring Meadows Road, Amargosa Valley, NV 89020 which is really the address for the mining company, but from the locked gate its only about 50 yards to the Lodge.
