I am paying $39.95 per month (128Kbps upstream/384 Kbps to 1544 Kbps downstream) plus, I got free installation & equipment (usually $199) as part of a promotion SW Bell was running last Spring. I was paying $19.95 a month for my old ISP at 56 Kbps & around $25.00 a month for a 2nd telephone line (which I had disconnected), so I'm actually saving about $5 a month. The only catch was I had to sign a 1 year contract with SW Bell Internet to be my ISP. The price varies around the country depending on what kind of DSL service you get.
Yes, you still need a ISP. There are probably several ISP's in your area that support DSL & the telephone company will have a ISP, but you contract the DSL line from the telephone Co. One little catch with DSL is that you have to be within 11,000 feet of the Telco's "Central Office".
Below is a link to an excellent website that I used extensively researching DSL before I got it & afterwards when I was working the bugs out, tweaking it for better performance, etc...
