I know what you mean John about "not wanting to call it a mold" I feel the same way, but Roy's STAR BORDER chip on the far left that we have found a few scrimshaw monograms on, dates back to 1880. It is hard to call it a "mold" because it is engraved but Suydam's use of it with monograms circa 1880 would make it "the first clay composite standard chip" ever made.
