The club serves a valid purpose in the annual auction today. It gets all the lots together, catalogs them, and gets an auctioneer to present them and accept bids at a common location.
I don't see the purpose of the club being involved in eBay auctions. eBay provides all the above services to anyone. What incentive would there be to consign chips to CC>CC so they could put them on eBay? Sounds like a solution without a problem.
I do think the club auction's days are numbered based on the alternatives available to consignors and the prices realized for good lots at the last couple of auctions. I suspect the free market is telling us that the club has no real business conducting auctions at all except to provide an evening's entertainment at the convention. I've enjoyed them <g>.
