John,
The Mason records are so much more than dates, chip amounts, etc.
I can not believe the history, one can find on the cards.
I have found two different people that have bought chips for a NV casino and an illegal. I don't have total proof yet but I believe I have found one person that bought and used chips in a NV casino. After the casino closed, he bought more of the same chip and used them in a Texas illegal. Hope to write about it as soon as I get a 2nd confirmation.
I have been able to tie several people to several casinos. In some cases even tie them to the syndicates.
It is very satisfying to find a person that bought the chips (in most cases). They can not believe you tracked them down. Sometimes a son or daughter is happy to give you the information you are seeking. I have had them tell me, please call my other brother, he might know more.
If I could have a year off and total access to the Mason records, I believe we could double the known knowledge of chips.
I just got a very intriguing Taylor record. New (to me) Hot Springs illegal. All but one color were returned. Four years later they were sold to a guy in Chicago. It was a massive amount of chips. I am trying to find the Chicago buyer. I can just about guarentee we can tie Capone to this one.
The old records are not about money or who has them. It is about the history of our hobby. If its out there, I for one, want it.
