Yes, I care. If there is a change in something related to the design, it's a different chip. If differences are due to process variables in manufacturing, it's not worth collecting as a variation as there are a nearly infinite number of end products (slight color difference, depth of the hotstamp, printing color offsets, location of UV marks).
Generally, I think TCR does a good job in listing only true design variations. I do disagree with a few of their choices, but I can just decide not to collect those.
