Something else that should be mentioned again...

Every chip should not be cleaned just because you 'can'. A general concensus in the past has been that very old and historically significant chips(also known as 'expensive') probably should not be cleaned. A chip of this caliber sometimes looks a bit odd after the layers of history are removed.
